10 Day Juice Fast Diary

This is part two of a 10 Day Juice Fast Diary, you may want to read part one first to put this into context, and to find out the guideline of my juice fast

Juice Fast Diary – Day 3

Whilst the hunger wasn’t so apparent today, what was most noticeable was my low mood and energy levels – I felt lethargic and lacked enthusiasm for much of the day. I was still able to do what I needed, and managed a short, fast 3 mile training run, but I wasn’t on fire by any stretch!

I have had a few big lifestyle changes during the last few weeks, including leaving a full time job, to concentrate of my own ventures, so this could be something to do with the readjusting. However more likely, during previous detoxes I’ve undertaken, there’s always been a lull before the fire starts burning brightly again.

In terms of my juices today, I started the day with the same juice as yesterday and mixed things up a bit with a green juice. Recipes below –


  • 1 Beetroot
  • 4 Carrot
  • 250g Kale
  • 2 Large Apples
  • 5cm Ginger
  • 1 Orange
  • 1/3 Large Cucumber
  • 3 Sticks of Celery

  • 2 Handful’s Spinach
  • 1/2 Large Cucumber
  • 5cm Ginger
  • 1 Lime
  • 2 Broccoli Stalks
  • 3 Celery Stalks
  • 3 Pears

This evening I went out for dinner, to a Japanese restaurant where I enjoyed a very tasty vegetable Katsu curry with coconut rice!

 10 Day Juice Fast Diary – Day 4

I awoke today feeling a little more energised, whereas yesterday I struggled to speak coherently! Today I feel like at last like I’m beginning to reap the benefits of this semi juice fast.

The hunger is still present, but each day the pangs become less noticeable, as my body adjusts to the new diet and reduced food intake. In terms of my regime today, it was the reverse of yesterday. I started with a green juice, followed by a purple juice, which would see me through the rest of the day.

Half way there. I am merely playing at this compared to Joe Cross and Phil Staples, the guys who inspired me to take on the juice fast. I take my hat off to them, because 60 days of this would be purgatory! I am not enjoying it much at all, mainly because of the very obvious drop in my energy levels.

Today I was back to feeling really tired and lethargic. I don’t know whether this is because I’m eating in the evening, or whether its just because this diet just doesn’t suit me? Whichever, today I was in low mood, and wholly demotivated. This isn’t like me.

Here is what I consumed today – I started the day with the tastiest juice so far, which consisted of the following :

  • 1 Pink Grapefruit,
  • 2 Apples
  • 10cm Cucumber
  • 5 Ginger

For the rest of the day I made a litre or so of purple juice, which I am getting very tired of now. Fortunately I get a break from juice and enjoyed a bean chilli with rice in the evening –

10 Day Juice Fast Diary – Day 6

I awoke with what felt like a mild hangover, I had a cloudy, foggy feeling in my head. I was tired and again feeling like I was running on fumes. The only consolation is that during the past few days, whilst I’ve been running shorter distances than normal, I’ve increased my speed, but apart from this, I am wondering if this is worth it…

I am finding it difficult to concentrate or even think for any considerable time. I felt drained today.

Juices consumed – in the morning, I had a kale, beetroot, apple and ginger followed by a carrot, orange, celery, ginger concoction in the afternoon.

My evening was a mushroom and lentil roast, served with vegetables :


10 Day Juice Fast Diary – Day 7

To begin with I awoke feeling much better than yesterday, which felt great after what’s been such a lack luster few days. As always I started the day with a glass of sparkling water with lemon, followed by my first juice of the day –

  • Orange
  • Carrot
  • Orange
  • Celery
  • Cucumber
  • Ginger

The hunger wasn’t an issue anymore, but by about 13.30 I began to feel totally exhausted. I fell asleep at my desk as I tried to concentrate on the task I was working on. Fortunately I was working at home, so I was able to crash out for a while, but this meant the work I’d planned to do, like it has for the last few days didn’t happen.

It was at this point I began to really question is this worth it? My conclusion was, that in the main this didn’t add anything to my life. My mood had dipped dramatically, productivity had declined and my energy levels depleted to a point where I couldn’t function as normal. So whilst I am not one to give up easily, this juice fast is OVER!


Personally whilst a juice fast maybe useful to detox or lose weight, at least for me it wasn’t all that useful if your diet is already plant based, you’re at a healthy weight and exercising regularly. On the positive side, if you’re willing to accept a decline in creativity, energy and productivity, it might be worth it. I have lost a few pounds and my stomach/digestive system has had a bit of a rest.

Juice fasting wasn’t a wholly successful experiment for me. Maybe it’s because I didn’t go all in, but I doubt it. I think there are better ways to lose a few pounds that won’t affect the way you feel in such a dramatic way, that it impacts your day to day life and work. However don’t take my word for it, this is just my experience. If you’re keen to give it a go, try it for yourself.
